Propell™: TOEFL iBT Introductory Workshop
This workshop provides instructional techniques and strategies using the integrated-skills approach to teaching language and preparing students for success with the TOEFL iBT.
This intensive, 7-hour teacher professional development workshop will cover the following:
- The integrated-skills approach to teaching, and how it can help your students communicate with confidence
- The listening, speaking, reading and writing skills that students need to communicate successfully in English-speaking academic environments
- Learning objectives for each of these skills, and demonstrations of sample classroom activities based on these objectives
- How the TOEFL iBT test assesses these integrated skills
- Sample responses for speaking and writing tasks on the TOEFL iBT test
Workshop participants will use all this information and work collaboratively to practice creating their own classroom activities. As well, they will have the opportunity to examine — and discuss with one another — how they might incorporate this integrated-skills teaching approach in their classrooms, if they are not already doing so.
The workshops are designed to offer highly interactive, hands-on, classroom-oriented learning experiences. Instructors who participate in — and successfully complete — the workshop will gain an understanding of the integrated-skills approach, which is recognized by leading language educators as the most effective way to build communicative competence and is now the basis for the TOEFL iBT test.
Workshop participants will receive:
- A workshop manual and comprehensive guide to help implement what you learn in the workshop.
- Five activity books that focus on individual learning skills.
- A complete TOEFL iBT Practice Test.
- A CD-ROM with audio samples to use with the practice test.
- Scoring rubric reference cards
- ETS-issued certificate of completion, which verifies that the participant has completed the "Propell - Helping Your Students Communicate with Confidence" workshop.
