Northstar Building Skills for the TOEFL iBT
In partnership with Pearson Longman, ETS has created an innovative instructional seriescalled NorthStar: Building Skills for the TOEFL® iBT. It combines ETS’s test development expertise with Pearson Longman’s language-learning capability to help students develop the skills necessary for TOEFL® iBT and academic success. The process of learning a language is a challenge — for students and teachers alike.
That is why a fundamental element of any English-language program is a carefully
developed, skill-building curriculum.
This is a new three-level series that links learning and assessment with a skill-building curriculum that includes authentic TOEFL iBT test material. Each book features ten thematic units to develop academic skills in English while building test-taking confidence. The series includes teacher’s manuals with evaluation tools to track student progress and actual student responses for Speaking and Writing at all score levels.
Books cover the Intermediate, High Intermediate and Advanced Levels.
At each of the three curriculum levels, there are 10 thematic units that:
- Support systematic, academic skill building
- Integrate listening, speaking, writing and reading instruction that reflects skillsrequired for academic and campus-based communications in English
- Cover all 20 types of questions found on the TOEFL iBT
- Include authentic TOEFL® iBT Practice Sets with unique, themed content created specifically for the series by ETS
Through a progression of skill-building activities, students are able to attain a level of
competency and confidence that enables them to demonstrate a greater command of
the English language when they take the TOEFL iBT.
